Solitude would turn out to be Carel's last race. In practice he could only beat the two curious Lotus-Borgwards of German amateurs Maring and Diel.
The race started in the wet and a big coming together on the opening lap bereft the race of seven entrants. Carel steered his Porsche clear of the mayhem and finished the race in his by now familiar fashion. At the finish the track had dried and Carel found himself in eighth place.
