Carel once again started his home Grand Prix in his completely beaten down Porsche, that was by now in its fifth season of racing. It had already competed in 45 Formula 1 events – an outright record.
During practice De Beaufort could only keep Siffert with his trouble-struck Brabham behind him and in the race even the reliability of his old 718 let him down – on lap nine one of the valves of the 4-cylinder broke and Carel retired.
